I absolutely loved this movie when I saw it in theaters as a child, and each time I watched it again I wanted to love it all over again, but it just gets too silly. Then when I finally got around to reading Verne's novel, I realized how dumbed-down the movie was. Still, it does have its enjoyable moments. Mills and Chevalier are always terrific!Williamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03053290865549099074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8212867859094085036.post-41682714988573143142023-11-05T11:44:46.649-05:002023-11-05T11:44:46.649-05:00I enjoyed this as a kid up and was totally with it...I enjoyed this as a kid up and was totally with it until they went tabogganing down the mountain on the boulder. They're just having such fun! That was ridiculous even to an 8 yr old and it broke my suspension of disbelief completely. I got on board again soon afterwards--but my expectations were a lot more cautious after that. I still enjoyed it overall and can watch it now with the attitude that ...(Sigh) okay, it's got flaws. I developed a crush on Hayley after seeing this--which intensified later when I saw THE MOON SPINNERS--she was so pretty, seemed so grounded and was SO charismatic. I didn't see most of her more famous films (POLLYANNA, THE PARENT TRAP) until much later because they just sounded dreadful to me. I enjoyed them when I finally did though. I think POLLYANNA, especially, is kind of a masterpiece.

I thought you nailed this one pretty accurately!

--MarkMark Shawnoreply@blogger.com
